What survives the import
Most nesting complaints are really DXF complaints. Here is what happens to each entity type, including the one case where you get a better result by preparing the file first.

If a file misbehaves, the five failure modes worth knowing are open contours, a units mismatch, duplicate overlapping geometry, block references and splines. All five, with the fix for each, are in the DXF troubleshooting guide.
The round trip

DXF out of Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, AutoCAD or Inkscape. Set units explicitly and explode blocks.

Measured against Deepnest, not just claimed
We ran Lapas Core v1.1 head to head against Deepnest on 37 nesting cases: same parts, same plates, same time budgets, then scored every result with an independent program that reads the output geometry. On the standard density tests Lapas left 13.9% of the plate as offcut against Deepnest's 26.7%, and on real jobs it fits the same parts on fewer plates. Fewer plates means lower material spend on every run.

Common questions
Yes. Upload the DXF in the browser, set sheet size and kerf, and the nested layout comes back as a DXF you can take into your CAM software. Nothing is installed and it works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux and tablets.
Almost always block references. If the file contains INSERT entities instead of direct geometry, a nesting tool has to resolve the block definition and many do not. Select everything in CAD, explode it, and re-export. Open the DXF in a text editor and search for INSERT to confirm it is gone.
A units mismatch between the DXF header and what the nesting tool assumed, which is the inch-to-millimetre factor. Set units explicitly on export rather than relying on the default.
Arcs, circles and ellipses import as true curves. Splines are approximated internally to a polyline, which is fine for most work but means that on tight-tolerance curved parts you get more control by converting splines to polylines in your CAD tool first, where you set the tolerance yourself.
A DXF of the nested layout for your CAM step, plus a PDF report with sheet count, utilization and part placement for quoting. Both are on the free plan. G-code export exists in beta but has not been validated across controllers, so verify it before cutting.
