Lapas launches: true-shape nesting in the browser

Upload DXF or SVG parts, watch them nest live by their real outline with small parts inside holes, and take the layout out as DXF, SVG, PLT, G-code or a PDF report.

01 · True-shape nesting

Packed by the real outline, not a box

An L-bracket's empty corner, and the hole in a flange, hold parts too.

A simple nester packs the rectangle around each part. Lapas Core packs the part itself, so L-shapes interlock, notches take the corner of a neighbour, and the empty space inside a box is used.

Small parts go inside the holes of larger ones. Hole nesting is always on. Since 1.5 the machine files also cut a part sitting in a hole before the hole around it.

You set the Spacing Between Items, the Border Spacing to the sheet edge and the rotations allowed. Parts always keep at least 1 mm apart, even with spacing at zero.

True shape
Parts nested by their real outlines instead of their bounding boxes Two L-shaped parts, a plate with a round hole and a small washer first sit side by side in their rectangular bounding boxes, with the empty corners of those boxes shaded as waste. The boxes fade, the parts slide together by their real outlines so the two L shapes interlock, and the washer slides into the plate's hole, each still a small gap from its neighbours. The bar showing the sheet length used shrinks from the length by boxes to the shorter length by real shape. Length used by boxes by real shape
Boxed, the parts leave their corners empty. By their real outline they interlock, and the washer goes in the hole.

02 · Live preview

Watch it nest

See the layout take shape instead of staring at a spinner.

While Lapas Core works, the page shows the best layout found so far and keeps updating it as the search tightens it up.

When the run ends, the final layout is checked before it becomes the result. The preview is there to watch, never what you cut from.

Live preview
The layout improves live on screen, and only the checked final layout is delivered Parts appear one by one on a sheet in a loose layout while the preview runs. They then shift into a tighter layout and the marker for the used length moves left. Only at the end does a checked badge appear, with the label final layout. live preview final layout checked ✓
Parts land, then the layout tightens as the search goes on. Only the checked final layout is delivered.

03 · Exports

Files for the machine and the office

One nest, and every file the shop needs from it.

Export DXF for your CAM, Export SVG for the web or a laser tool, Export PLT for plotter-style cutters and Export G-code for the machine. Each downloads a ZIP with one file per sheet.

Download PDF report gives the office every sheet with its parts.

Check a new G-code program on your controller before production. Machine files cut every part holes first, then its outline.

Exports
One finished nest, five export formats A finished nested sheet sits on the left. Five file chips fan out to the right one after another: DXF for CAM, SVG for the web, PLT for a plotter, G-code for the machine, and a PDF report for the office. 2. 1.5 1–18 Sep 2026 More file formats, and offcuts in their real shape Open DWG, PDF, Illustrator and LightBurn files, keep the real shape of every offcut and nest onto it, fix a part that does not fit in one click, and cut a part in a bore before the bore.
  3. 1.4 August 2026 Fewer sheets, diagonal parts and kits Repeated parts pack onto fewer sheets, long parts that only fit at an angle now nest, kits stay whole on one sheet, and a short result tells you what is missing with a one-click fix.
  4. 1.3 July 2026 Fine-tune the nest, keep the real curves Adjust a finished nest by hand with exact moves, measuring and snapping, pack curved parts into each other, lose half-empty last sheets, and get DXF files that keep your real arcs and layers.
  5. 1.2 June 2026 Your stock, your angles, your layers Nest one job across several sheet sizes, allow your own rotation angles, and sort cut and engrave layers with rules saved on your account.
  6. 1.1 May 2026 Clearer results, safer imports A warning before the run when a part will not fit the sheet, inch files at the right size, every layout checked before you get it, and a Fast to Quality speed slider.
