Version 1.1 Released May 2026
Clearer results, safer imports
A warning before the run when a part will not fit the sheet, inch files at the right size, every layout checked before you get it, and a Fast to Quality speed slider.
01 · Fit check
Too big for the sheet? You hear before the run
No waiting for a nest that was never going to place that part.
When you press start, every part is measured against the usable area: the sheet less its border. A part that cannot fit is listed before anything runs, with what it needs and what the sheet allows.
The usual causes are named with it: a bigger sheet, a smaller border, or leaving the part out. Since 1.5 the same dialog fixes it in one click.
02 · Units
Inch files at the right size
A part drawn in inches does not come in 25.4 times too small.
When a DXF or SVG says what units it is in, Lapas uses them and scales the part for you.
When it does not say, Lapas makes an assumption from your metric or imperial setting and tells you: We assumed mm - switch if that's wrong. One click switches every file in the upload that did not declare its units, and a line stays on the part so you can switch back.
If reading a file in inches would make it bigger than any plate, the banner says that too.
03 · Layout check
Every layout checked before you get it
No overlapping parts and nothing hanging off the plate, on any result.
Every finished layout is checked again against the real part outlines, separately from the search that made it: no two parts overlapping, and no part past the sheet edge. A part sitting in another part's hole is allowed, as it should be.
A layout that fails the check is never delivered. Lapas tries another way, or the job fails with a clear message.
The live preview shows work in progress. Only the checked final layout reaches the result and the export.

Smaller changes
-
Fast, Optimized, Quality
Choose how long Lapas searches for a better layout on a slider marked Fast, Optimized and Quality, instead of typing seconds. Big jobs get more time on their own.
-
Pan and zoom the result
Every sheet sits side by side on one canvas: scroll to zoom at the cursor, drag to pan. The live preview uses the same view.
-
Better SVG and DXF text
SVG files can hold several shapes, and can be kept as one rigid part. DXF text comes in with every letter.
-
Engrave layers ride along
Decorative engrave or mark layers stay with their part.
-
Clearer import errors
Files that fail to read say why.
-
Decimal commas
Numbers typed with a comma are accepted, and the PDF report lists the parts next to each sheet.
-
Rate a result
Tell us how a nest came out, straight from the result.
All releases

- 1.5 1–18 Sep 2026 More file formats, and offcuts in their real shape Open DWG, PDF, Illustrator and LightBurn files, keep the real shape of every offcut and nest onto it, fix a part that does not fit in one click, and cut a part in a bore before the bore.

- 1.2 June 2026 Your stock, your angles, your layers Nest one job across several sheet sizes, allow your own rotation angles, and sort cut and engrave layers with rules saved on your account.
- 1.1 May 2026 Clearer results, safer imports A warning before the run when a part will not fit the sheet, inch files at the right size, every layout checked before you get it, and a Fast to Quality speed slider.
- 1.0 Feb–Apr 2026 Lapas launches: true-shape nesting in the browser Upload DXF or SVG parts, watch them nest live by their real outline with small parts inside holes, and take the layout out as DXF, SVG, PLT, G-code or a PDF report.
Don't take our word for it.
Upload one of your own DXF files and see the layout yourself. It's free and takes about two minutes.
